Jobs and Economic Development

To make Indiana the best place for businesses to locate and thrive we must keep taxes low, provide strong incentives for business expansion and capital investment and reduce or eliminate burdensome government regulations. My number one priority at the Statehouse will be working to ensure Indiana remains in a strong position to attract new businesses and promote growth among existing ones so we can put more Hoosiers back to work.

Property Tax Caps

A recent Ball State University study estimates property tax caps could create up to 97,000 jobs for Hoosiers and add more than $6 billion to the state economy, providing more investment income businesses can use to create jobs. Tax caps also put tens of millions of dollars back into the pockets of hard working Hoosier families. Providing a balanced, fair and predictable property tax system will give Hoosier companies the edge they need to successfully compete in the global economy. I fully support property tax caps and the right of every Hoosier to vote on this important issue on November 2nd.

Education

Making sure our children have a world class education is critical to future job growth in Indiana.  We must make sure dollars stay in the classroom where they are most needed so Hoosier students receive the best education we can afford. I look forward to partnering with schools in District 26 and working with them to find ways to use your hard-earned tax dollars in the most efficient way possible so our students receive the educational opportunities they need to succeed in an ever-changing global marketplace.

Government Reform

As a fiscal conservative I strongly oppose deficit spending. Burdening our children and grandchildren with high levels of debt is unacceptable – they deserve better. During these lean economic times, Hoosier families are cutting back and so should government. I will fight tirelessly to find and eliminate any and all unnecessary and wasteful state spending and make sure government is more transparent, efficient and accountable to you. More than ever we need to send someone to the Indiana Senate who understands budgets and is willing to make the hard choices that will create a better future for all Hoosier families.

Health Care

One of the most important issues facing Hoosiers today is the availability and high cost of health care. Improving access to quality, affordable health care for all Hoosiers will be one of my top priorities at the Statehouse.

Energy

Increasing our use of “homegrown” sources of energy such as solar, wind and biomass is key to lessening our dependence on foreign oil, strengthening our economy and helping the environment. As your state senator, I will work with my colleagues to find ways to better use our natural resources to benefit our economy and our environment.
